Introduction to Visual Design

8 Weeks

About the Course

This course is planned as an introductory taster to the fundamentals of the Visual Arts. This course will support learners who may have completed some Visual Arts training and are looking to re-engage in visual arts practice and identify and build on skills gaps, as well as complete beginners who may be looking for an entry into a visual arts career.

The course will focus primarily on practical work to improve technical skills and knowledge of visual fundamentals as well as aim to build learners confidence to engage and participate in further study or employment opportunities in their specific area of interest. It will include gallery trips (if restrictions permit this) and art history discussions to ground the learners understanding of the industry and provide context for their own developing practice. They will be taken through a range of different materials to best illustrate several fundamental principles that can be applied to all visual designs practices going forward. Learners will be encouraged to focus on the practice most relevant to them and personalise tasks as is appropriate. Each class will conclude with a discussion on the skills learned and where they could lead to in the future.
